Abstract | Over the last 8 years there has been a great deal of activity in the field of "water mist" research anddevelopment. The term "water mist" is used here to refer to fine water sprays which have 99 percent ofthe volume of the spray in drops with diameters less than 1000 microns. In early 1996, the pace ofdevelopment continues to be rapid. Activities are occurring on a variety of fronts, ranging fromtheoretical investigations into extinguishing mechanisms, computational fluid dynamics modeling, andthe development, patenting and manufacturing mist-generating equipment. This review is intended toidentify the agencies involved in this effort, describe the work that is presently underway, and highlightthe major developments to date. |
