Subject | RIGICE; marine icing |

Abstract | This report is a summary of progress to April, 1999 made on modelling and field measurement of marine icing of offshore platforms. Icing predictions are made using the model RIGICE and several modifications to the model which improve the underlying physics of the phenomenon are summarized in Sec. 2. RIGICE is used to investigate the icing climatology of the East Coast of Canada using meteorological data collected onboard the Rowan-Gorilla III platform. Field data obtained since its installation in November, 1998 are not included in this report but will be part of a final report, however, a detailed description of the sensor design and calibration technique are described in Sec. 4. |
