Abstract | Triple flames are of great importance in not only fundamental combustion research, but also industry applications. Since the triple flame phenomenon was first observed experimentally by Phillips in 1965, a number of theoretical and experimental studies have been devoted to the structures and propagation of triple flames from various viewpoints. However fewer studies have dealt with NOx emission characteristics of triple flames.... The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the NO, the dominant component of NOx, emission characteristics in triple flames by numerical simulation. To simplify the computations, the study was carried out for counterflow methane-air triple flames. The choice of methane as a fuel is because relatively detailed and complete chemical kinetics is available. The structure and NO emission mechanism in counterflow methane-air triple flames are discussed and compared to those of other corresponding counterflow premixed flames. |
