Abstract
In the harsh polar environment, the sea is covered by ice most of the year. However, in recent years a significant retreat in sea ice extent in the Canadian Arctic has been recorded. Accordingly, ship traffic associated with tourism, community re-supply and resource development are all increasing in these polar waters.
