| Abstract | Recently, a request was received from a Canadian industrial company for a high quality balance on a test rotor which that company wanted to use as an artifact for the calibration of their own balancing machines. In responding to the request it was recognized that the use of air bearings to support the rotor in the balancing machine might provide additional accuracy to the balance achieved or might even allow a reduction in the residual unbalance achieved. This memorandum summarizes that investigation and discusses the merits of the air bearing supports. |
