Abstract | The inherent difficulty in the modelling of hydrodynamic problems consists in the presence of the unknown free surface on which non-linear and time dependent boundary conditions are applied. In this paper the generic mathematical model of three-dimensional non-linear, time domain dynamics of floating or submerged vessels in waves or calm water is briefly reviewed. A sample of the implementation of the corresponding numerical algorithms is described. Results of simulations of the hydrodynamic loads and motions induced on ships in extreme sea conditions, and of ship wave patterns and resistance in calm water shown. |
