Abstract | In this report, the emission characteristics of various building materials/furnishings are reviewed. Existing emission source models and their application for building materialshmishings are described. It is concluded that various statistical models are available for analyzing and reporting emission test results of individual materials as functions of time. However, there is a need to develop mass transfer models that describe the emission process mechanistically. These mass transfer models would provide better predictions of the emission characteristics beyond the standard testing period and testing conditions. Furthermore, models for predicting the emission characteristics of material systems (assemblies) and methods for predicting the impact of ambient air conditions (temperature, humidity, air velocity and turbulence) on the material emissioncharacteristics are especially needed. |
