Abstract
Field trials at Bushland, TX, showed that (Z)-9, (E)-12-tetradecadien-1-o1 and (Z)-9, (E)-12-tetradecadien-1-o1 acetate is an effective sex attractant for monitoring field populations of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hubner). The alcohol analogue alone is an attractant for males of the sunflower moth, Homoeosoma electellum (Hulst) but is unattractive to the beet armyworm. The most effective filed attraction of S. exigua males occurred with traps baited with 100 μg, Z9, E12-14: OH + 10 μg Z9, E12-14:AC.
