Abstract | Readers of Cold Regions Science and Technology will certainly notice that the vast majority of papers published in this journal deal with problems caused by frozen water. The types of problems vary considerably and often deal with avalanches, river ice jams, ice loads on marine structures, frost heaving, etc. It seems that people are always trying to find ways to predict and overcome, or at least minimize, these problems. An important question to ask is: “Does the bearing capacity of an ice cover fit into this category?”. |
