Abstract | This chapter discusses the production, productivity, future expected availability, and economics of the alternative marine resources industry, including krill oil, copepod oil, and fishery by-catch and by-product oils in all the major producing countries. Topics described and comprehensively discussed include the principal potential candidates for replacement of fish oil, their fishery or production status, and past, current, and future expected availability. In addition, the extraction and refining processes required for the different oil products are detailed. key to their use, the physical, chemical, and nutritional characteristics of different alternative marine resources are described. Finally, an overview of the potential advantages and challenges of using these alternative oil sources in aquafeed industry in outlined. |
