Abstract | To develop accurate fire resistance models, it is important to know the thermal properties of building materials. This report presents the results of measurements of thermal properties at elevated temperatures of construction materials commonly used to build lightweight wood-framed assemblies. The thermal property tests were performed by the National Research Council of Canada between 1990 and 2000. Tabulated values and graphs are given for thermal conductivity, specific heat, mass loss and thermal expansion/contraction of the materials (wood, gypsum and insulation) as a function of temperature. In addition, the effects of temperature on the thermal conductivity, specific heat, mass loss and thermal expansion/contraction of the materials are discussed. Finally, in addition to providing a resource of information, this report also identifies the additional thermal property tests required to complete the matrix of information. |
