| Abstract | The test of a model tip jet-driven two-bladed rotor demonstrated that some of the mechanical problems of folding and trailing may not be too difficult of solution. Theoretical treatment of a full-scale rotor for an example aircraft shows that the weight and power of the scheme need not be excessive.
Testing of such a rotor outdoors in and out of the diluted blast of a jet engine may be a crude but inexpensive way of proving the performance end showing up the penalties. In any case, the idea would seem to offer an amusing source of practical and theoretical Interest in thermodynamics, aerodynamics and mechanics. |
