Abstract
Extensive calibration tests have been made on two five-tube probes differing only in apex angle, namely, 70 degrees and 90 degrees. Calibration data are presented in the form of carpet plots which can be used to estimate the vector velocity and total pressure in an unknown air stream. Each probe was found to have a maximum misalignment angle of approximately 10 degrees less than its semi-apex angle. When the angle contained by the probe axis and air stream direction exceeded this malincidence, the indicated tube pressures led to spurious results. An assessment of the Reynolds number effect due to velocity change over the incompressible flow range on probe calibration has been made.
