Abstract | The A.S.T.M. Chemical Test C-289-52T for determining Alkali-Aggregate Reactivity, originally developed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, was used to rate several Canadian sands and stones as part of a larger test program. Two U.S. reference materials were employed in order to check laboratory techniques. Modifications of the standard test were made to reduce the time required for the gravimetric determination of silica and were found to give reproducible results. The tests confirmed a mild reactivity in a crushed stone sample taken from a source used in a concrete structure which has shown some evidence of cement-aggregate reaction. |
