Availability of solution processable materials is of paramount importance for fabrication of flexible electronics in roll-to-roll lines with high throughput and acceptable cost. We have developed and tested a novel UV cross-linkable polymer dielectric, and characterized it in all-flexo printed capacitors and TFTs. The cross-linking and polymerization are triggered by photo-generated free radical initiators, under open air and at room temperature upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The calculated dielectric constant at 100 KHz is 5.12, higher than that of PMMA (3.8), a common dielectric in printed electronics. The new dielectric is photo-crosslinked in a manner of minutes under normal atmosphere, it is not soluble in alcohols, water, or acetone, and its surface has a hydrophilic character, making it compatible with most alcohol- and water-based silver inks. Because of the radical polymerization mechanism, the dielectric layer is free from ionic species which may negatively affect its performance by accumulating at interfaces.
