Abstract | It is known that the sculling motion is highly efficient, yet no one knows exactly why. The "sculling and oscillating foils" project aims to study the sculling motion in detail. This paper discusses the design of the foil to be used in this project. and discusses the design from the beginning stages to its present development. It details the components of the foil, the method for fabricating the foil and presents calculations to determine testing velocities for the foil. The paper concludes by discussing possible ways in which to attach the foil to the testing equipment that will be used. |
