Abstract | The messages are everywhere: 'BIM is coming', 'Only big companies can afford to do it', 'BIM is for Architects', 'BIM needs expensive software', 'BIM means more risk and overhead'. This is a broad introductory seminar for architects, engineers, contractors and buyers of construction unfamiliar with BIM. The session will focus on dispelling some common misconceptions and demonstrating what value BIM has for the entire design and construction sector. Topics will include: what is BIM; who is adopting BIM and why; and what are the standards, benefits, challenges, and changing practices. BIM is not just a replacement for CAD but rather a catalyst for a fundamental change in how disciplines collaborate to conceive and execute construction projects based on sharing and reusing information. |
