| Abstract | Water mist is effective in fire suppression. With the recent phase-out of halons and the search for alternative agents, interest in using fine water sprays for fixed fire suppression systems has increased. However, the extinguishing properties of water mist in fire water mist fire suppression systems are not yet established.
This paper reports the full-scale fire testing of water mist fire suppression systems. Fires used in the tests include heptane tell-tale, square-pan and large round-pan fires, heptane spray different elevations. Two types of water mist systems were used in tests: single-fluid/high pressure system and twin-fluid/low pressure system. The suppression properties of water mist are investigated exampling the changes in temperatures, gas concentrations and dynamic mixing in the room. |
