| Abstract | In 2023, the National Research Council Canada (NRC) developed a heavy-truck shape concept for aerodynamic investigations of emerging zero-emission heavy-vehicle shapes, that was subsequently fabricated and tested at 30% scale in the NRC 9 m Wind Tunnel. The project was funded by Transport Canada’s ecoTECHNOLOGY for Vehicles Program with a goal to investigate range benefits of emerging shapes associated with zero-emission power trains. The CAD models and test data corresponding to two variants of the tractor-trailer model are available for download. The geometric scale of the CAD models is 30% relative to a full-scale vehicle, for consistency with the 30%-scale of the wind-tunnel model on which they are based. The H model represents a low-drag tractor shape with a “H”ybrid power-train configuration, while the Z model represents the same low-drag shape, with additional drag-reduction modifications, representing a “Z”ero-emission power-train configuration. Wind-tunnel measurements are provided for force-and-moment coefficients, ventilation/wheel-drag coefficients, surface-pressure coefficients, and cooling-airflow wind-speed ratios. |
