Abstract
The polyurethane foam industry is often confronted with the need to demonstrate the safety of its products. Polymers are considered to be inert materials, however, those produced using reactive species are often questioned as to their harmlessness. This is because it is feared that unreacted small molecules might still be present after manufacture and may be released. In this regard, the results presented here investigate the fate of residual isocyanates in flexible polyurethane foam.
