Abstract | Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) has become the standard for managing networks. Recently, there has been considerable activity within security-related e-mail lists regarding newly discovered security liabilities associated with many installed SNMP implementations. This article sheds some light on SNMP, providing an overview of its operation, and an outline of its development. It also describes security issues associated with SNMP from a network manager's perspective and provides recommendations in light of these issues. |
