Abstract	In this paper I will outline the current status of the Canadian Codes by taking a look at the development process that has taken place in Canada over the last six to ten years. In nearly all countries around the world the codes themselves are only one aspect of the complex system of regulation and control that impacts all aspects of construction. It is impossible to look at codes in isolation and many aspects of the Canadian political and governmental structure have acted to shape the structure and approach of the new Canadian Objective Based Codes System.
