Abstract | The objective of our research is the isolation and preservation of cell lines with accumulate bisindole alkaloids with anti-leukemic activity, i.e. vincristine and vinblastine or their monomeric moieties catharanthine and vindoline. Our strategy required to first initiate a large number serial callus cultures from as many donor plants, to screen this material for cell cultures (line) with desirable alkaloid profiles, to then design a selection system for vinblastine or vincristine cell, and finally to devise a protocol for cryopreservation of such cells. |
