Abstract
This paper describes current and proposed research at the National Research Council of Canada intended to assess the potential impact of performance-based solutions in future editions of the national building codes. The research addresses the need to introduce performance-based solutions that correlate with the objectives, functional statements and intents provided by the objective-based format of the 2005 codes. The main research areas are fire performance and the performance of exterior wall systems against rain penetration.
