Abstract | Acetone and ethanol extracts of heartwood and sapwood of jack pine can be separated well enough to identify many of the compounds buy gas-liquid chromatography, after the extracts are silylated with N, O-bis (trimethylsilyl)-acetone. The main difference between the extracts of heartwood and sapwood was the presence of more flavanones and less simple phenolics in the heartwood. Alkaline pulping agents removed approximately 85 per cent of the extractives. Both soda and kraft cooking agents removed most of the resin acids, but kraft cooking agents were effective in removing the flavanones. |
