Abstract | During 1992 we have continued our program to develop and/or use existing state-of-the art techniques to characterize the linear and nonlinear acoustic properties of Zr-2.5 Nb tubes exhibiting large differences in fracture toughness. In the first part of this report we describe measurements of longitudinal velocity in the axial direction and its dependence on temperature and stress. We then describe our latest results on the development of techniques for the measurement of the nonlinearity parameter beta using and optical interferometer. In the last section of this report we present a final analysis of the effect of texture on ultrasonic velocity and the determination of texture coefficients from velocity measurements. |
