Abstract | The fraudulent use of telecommunications networks is costing the industry billions of dollars in lost revenue each year. The opportunities for fraudulent activity are particularly great in mobile communications as a result of the transport medium and the desire of network operators to attract large numbers of users quickly. This paper reports on the problems currently faced by mobile phone network operators and the technological solutions currently being used or implemented. A multi-agent systems approach which is expected to provide greater user customization of handset facilities and enhanced real time fraud detection is proposed. |
