Abstract | Camera calibration is a process that determines the parameters required to compute a vector from a camera to an object, given the location of its corresponding image recorded by the camera. This report discusses techniques for calibrating cameras in the Qualisys optical tracking system at the Institute for Marine Dynamics (IMD). It focusses on a technique that uses the motion of a wand for control points, and it compares this technique to another technique used at the IMD. To optimize the camera calibration parameters, the wand calibration software at IMD minimizes a nonlinear cost function. This report introduces eight strategies for minimizing this cost function, and describes tests that were performed to determine which strategy works best. |
