Abstract | Results of a fire tests on six reinforced concrete column are given. These tests are a part of a series of twelve tests carried out in the second phase of a joint study on the fire performance of concrete columns by the National Research Council Canada and Construction Technology Laboratories, a division of the Portland Cement Association. Two of the columns were made of normal weight, and two of high strength, siliceous aggregate concrete. Two columns were made of expanded shalel lightweight aggregate concrete. These columns measured 305 x 305 mm (12 x 12 in.) in cross-section and 3,810 mm (12 ft 6 in.) long. The purpose of the tests was to study the effects of restraint, concrete strength, and aggregate density on the fire resistance of the columns. |
