Abstract | Meristem culture technique is a very versatile tool of immediate application. Since the constituent cells of shoot apical or lateral meristems are generally virus-free and also genetically stable, meristem culture technique has been successfully utilized to regenerated virus-free plants in a genetically stable condition from a wide range of crop species (cf. 1 for a review). Because of the morphogenetic capacity of plant meristems efforts were directed in our laboratory to explore the possibilities of using plant meristems for the long-term preservation of a few plant species by cryogenic methods. |
