Abstract | Pipeline leak detection sensors are created by using fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) that are inscribed through polyimide coatings of optical fiber with an infrared femtosecond laser and then specially packaged in materials susceptible to hydrocarbons. Depending on the sensor geometry, strain is either applied or released upon exposure to toluene or crude oil. |
