Abstract | Networking is one of the most important aspects in modern computing. It allows us to quickly and effectively share ideas and work together on a common project. But as computer networks grow beyond simple home networks into the large corporate, national, and international networks of today, you can't trust everyone your computer is connected to. Enter Intrusion Detection: an Intrusion Detection System allows us to identify malicious network activity as soon as it happens, providing an effective means for preventing attacks from being successful. Snort is one of the leading standards in Intrusion Detection. It is an open-source project with a vast community of supporters constantly updating and improving the already exceptional piece of software. If you want to know how your network's resources are being used, Snort makes it possible. |
