Abstract | By using simple truss elements to discretize the mooring line, the 3-D finite element formulation for the noNewfoundlandinear elastic analysis of catenary mooring is presented. In this, the direct stiffness approach is taken with the nodal displacements being the unknowns. The problem is treated as being geometrically noNewfoundlandinear, but low in strain. The material property can be hyperelastic. External loads can be arbitrary. Preliminary verification of the formulation and the computer program written was done by using a simple catenary example. The numerical results were shown to agree well with the analytical solution. |
