Abstract | About ten years ago shale replaced clay as the basic raw material and more recently the firm installed a tunnel kiln in an effort to improve their product. There have been many problems associated with operation of the new kiln. Although these had not been completely resolved, some leakage and bond strength tests were carried out on small panels assembled with them, using four mortar combinations. The results of these tests and pertinent data concerning the physical properties of the bricks are now reported. |
