Abstract | A field experiment was conducted in March 1992 to estimate the collision forces between ice floes in the Newfoundland ice margin. The present paper is focused on floe collisions which occur naturally as a result of wave propagation through the ice pack. Rather than measure the forces directly, these were inferred by recording accelerations on the surface of the floes. The ice pack consisted of first-year floes which were 10 m to 20 m in diameter and 0.3 to 1.0 thick. |
