| Abstract | A preliminary investigation has been conducted into the performance characteristics of an experimental hybrid vehicle. To date, testing of the vehicle has been confined to the all-electric mode of operation. The maximum power delivered by the batteries to the power controller was approximately 15 horsepower. The 4200 pound test vehicle achieved maximum accelerations and velocities on almost level concrete of about 2 ft/sec/sec and 20 mi/hr respectively.
Because of the high curb weight and minimal available power of the vehicle in the all-electric mode, the test results are not to be construed as typical of current electric vehicle practice. However, the variations in salient performance parameters are considered to be representative of the general operating characteristics of a DC to DC converter-controlled electric vehicle. |
