Abstract | Recent work on the development of optical sensors for on-line inspection of industrial materials is reviewed. Examples include on-line thickness profilometry for sawmill process control, polymer morphology analysis by light-scattering techniques, lubricant oil quantifcation on aluminum sheets, in-process inspection of plasma sprayed particles, and infrared temperature sensing in a continuous annealing furnace. The emphasis is on noncontact techniques well suited to automation and specifically adapted to each particular application with minimal perturbation of the industrial process. |
