| Abstract | The generating plant at the SAGE site at the North Bay RCAF base consists of six 750-watt engine-generator sets, two of which are normally on stand-by service. The engines are capable of dual fuel operation and for economic reasons it is desirablethat they should run normally on natural gas supplied by pipeline. It is, however, imperative that uninterrupted power be supplied to the SAGE computers, particularly during an alert, when the gas supply may fail, e.g. as a result of enemy action. The engine controls are therefore arranged to change over automatically from gas to diesel operation if the gas pressure falls below a pre-selected minimum value. |
