Abstract
The National Building Code has been a significant factor in the development of uniform building regulations throughout Canada. Produced in model bylaw form under the auspices of a nationally representative committee appointed by a Federal agency (National Research Council of Canada), the Code has received wide acceptance through legal adoption at local government level. This paper describes the development of the Code, its method of preparation and its use in Canada as a building bylaw and as the minimum standard for construction of housing under Canada's National Housing Act.
