| Abstract | Experiments were made with noise suppressors of conventional screen and new developed grid type. These devices were installed in an exhaust duct of a jet engine test bed. Practically applicable noise level reductions of about 15 decibels were obtained. Higher reductions (up to 20 decibels) were penalized by the adverse influence of the suppressor on tailpipe temperature and engine thrust. It Is believed that this difficulty may be overcome. |
