Abstract	Many standard requirements for the evaluation of roofing membranes involve tensile testing and various methods are specified or have been used for these tests. In this study, some test parameters, such as temperature, speed of loading, gauge length and strain variation within a specimen, that affect the tensile test results, were examined for three types of PVC membrane. Over two hundred specimens were subjected to tensile tests. The results show that some of the test methods used for evaluating roofing membranes need to be carefully selected in relation to the material under test.
