Abstract
Haploids can occur naturally at low frequencies or be produced via culture of anthers, isolated microspores, unfertilized ovules, chromosome elimination with wide crosses, or pollination with irradiated pollen. The method chosen depends on the species to be studied. The development of embryos from microspores or anthers is termed androgenesis. This technique can be applied to many species and will be discussed further in this chapter.
