Abstract | NiMoS 2 has been widely used as active component in hydrodesulfurization (HDS) in hydrotreating sulphur-containing fractions during petroleum refining and heavy oil upgrading. Having the potential to enhance catalyst activity, nanostructured NiMoS 2 has attracted significant interests in recent years. However, synthesis of NiMoS 2 with uniform structure is challenging due to easily precipitation of NiS x. In this work, a new method was developed for direct synthesis of uniform nanostructured NiMoS 2/SiO 2 microspheres by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The synthesized catalysts were characterized using scanning electron micrograph /energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, nitrogen isotherm as well as transmission electron microscopy, which confirmed the formation of uniform nanostructured NiMoS 2/SiO 2. It was found that these materials had an average pore size of 6.8 nm with a uniform pore size distribution. The catalytic activity of these catalysts was evaluated using a model compound, dibenzothiophene, with promising results. The HDS kinetics will also be discussed in this presentation. |
