| Abstract | An analytic model has been described herein which represents the three-dimensional throughflow through a short compressor subject to both (externally imposed) inlet and outlet distortion.
The model represents the compressor as separate small compressors working in parallel sharing non-uniform inlet, interblade row, and exit plane fields. Each small compressor is really a stream tube passing a constant flow through portions of blade rows and is coupled to adjoining stream tubes through continuity and equilibrium requirements.
The proposed method is an iterative one in which the aerothermodynamic performance, momentum, and conservation of mass are calculated separately. The solution is obtained when all three requirements are satisfied simultaneously within a specified convergence tolerance.
The information contained herein involves equilibrium and continuity formulations only. The aerothermodynamic part of the model has already been formulated and programmed and will be published separately.
Inlet and outlet distortions have been characterized analytically and are imposed on the throughflow solution in the form of boundary conditions; this work will be published separately as well. |
