Abstract | Generation of covalent hydrides and elemental mercury useful for enhancing the sample introduction efficiency and detection power of analytical atomic spectroscopy is described. Reduction using various chemical, thermochemical and photochemical techniques is considered and the resultant enhanced performance summarized along with a consideration of interferences and mechanisms of production and atomization. The techniques may be employed in batch, continuous and flow injection formats when interfaced to atomic absorption, emission, fluorescence and mass spectrometry detection platforms. |
