| Abstract | I briefly review past efforts to characterize the properties of compact stellar nuclei in nearby galaxies, and describe a program – the ACS Virgo Cluster Survey (ACSVCS) – to observe 100 early-type members of the Virgo Cluster using the Hubble Space Telescope. The properties of the nuclei from this survey are compared with those of the globular clusters. A similar comparison between the nuclei and the supermassive black holes found in many massive galaxies points to an unforseen causal relationship between these two types of central massive objects. |
