Abstract | Numerical simulations of a number of propellers operating in both open water and blocked flows were completed using the panel method code PROPELLA. The panel method was used to assess the hydrodynamic propeller loading that occurs as a result of blockage during propeller/ice interaction. Time histories of propeller loading were generated and the results were presented in terms of load coefficients versus proximity to the ice block, ratios of peak blockage load relative to open water loads versus advance coefficient. Conditions investigated included operation near an ice sphere and an ice wall. Five propellers were modelled. |
