Abstract | Extensive studies are being carried out by the Division in an attempt to identify the constituents of a dolomitic limestone from Kingston, Ontario, which cause it to expand when exposed to alkali. Serious expansion of concrete made with this limestone as coarse aggregate has occurred through reaction with cements having a substantial alkali content. The possibility of expansion cannot be assessed by any of the quick tests developed for other undesirable reactions. |
