Abstract	Climate change has led to an increase in heat waves, placing Canadians at greater risk to heat-related health issues. Additionally, it has intensified thermal loads on building envelope systems, thereby raising the cooling energy demand of buildings. Landscape design and urban planning are the design practices that shape urban morphology and modulate urban microclimate, which may consequently improve outdoor and indoor thermal comfort and reduce energy demand of buildings. The design or planning practice must follow specific standards or guideline to ensure an appropriate design outcome, that would mitigate the heat island effects and result in thermal comfort in urban environment.
