Abstract | This report gives a brief overview of a wake survey, what the test entails and the various instruments employed in such experiments. The two models of pressure transducers that have been used in past wake surveys at the National Research Council's Institute for Ocean Technology are introduced, the first being the current piezo-resistive pressure transducer and the second being the replaced differential transducer. Problems that have been encountered in recent wake surveys are discussed in addition to speculations of what could have caused the unpredictable trends that occur in the data. Preparation procedures and details regarding the step tests and drift samples completed to test the transducers are outlined, and the results from such tests are documented. The differential transducers and piezo-resistive transducers are then compared in regards to hysteresis and response time in an effort to gain a better understanding on how to improve methods used in future wake survey testing. |
